How do Arcs affect movement?

Quick answer

Movement in Arcs is based on adjacency between systems, with Catapult moves from starports allowing extended movement, and path markers connecting gates in out-of-play clusters.

Details

Adjacency Rules
Systems are adjacent if they share a thin border. Gates are adjacent to their cluster’s planets and neighboring cluster gates. Planets are adjacent to their cluster’s gate and neighboring planets (unless separated by a thick border) [p.6 — The Map].

Catapult Movement
When moving ships from a Loyal starport, you may take Catapult moves: continue moving the ships as desired until they enter a gate controlled by another player or any planet. This allows multiple system moves in a single action [p.13 — Move].

Out-of-Play Clusters
During setup, path markers are placed on out-of-play cluster gates, making the gates of neighboring clusters adjacent. This enables movement between them in one move, but players cannot enter out-of-play cluster systems [p.4 — Setup, p.13 — Move].

Watch out:
If you move into a system controlled by a Rival, any buildings or ships you place there start damaged. Ensure you have fresh ships to maintain control and avoid unnecessary damage [p.12 — Build].
