When can I play Companion/Summons cards?
Quick answer
Companions and Summons activate before or after your Character's Activation in Combat; they cannot be activated during Exploration or Camp.
Details
Companions in Combat: During Combat, you may activate a Companion assigned to you before or after your own Activation. When activated, the Companion may perform two Actions, which can include any Basic Action, a specific Action from their card, and Sheet actions. After resolving the Companion's Action or Reaction, flip their card to the other side. The Companion card refreshes to the light side at the beginning of the Activation of the Character who has their card. [p.27 — In Combat]
Summons in Combat: Summons may be Activated in the same way as Companions, right before or after the Activation of the Character who has their card. [p.27 — Summons]
Exploration and Camp: Companions cannot perform Actions during Exploration or Camp Phase, with the exception of Partners (solo mode), who may use Camp Actions with some restrictions. [p.27 — In Exploration; p.19 — Camp Sheet & Camp Phase]
Watch out: Both Companions and Summons must be activated during Combat only—they cannot be used outside of tactical encounters. Additionally, Summons are automatically discarded at the end of Combat, so they cannot carry over between encounters.
