When does free movement get lost?

Quick answer

Free movement is lost when a hero becomes adjacent to an enemy, waits, ends their turn, or uses an action costing Action Points mid-movement. [p.39 — Free Movement]

Details

Free movement is automatically lost in several situations during exploration or combat:

  1. Adjacency to an enemy: If a hero starts their turn adjacent to an enemy or becomes adjacent during movement, they lose any remaining free movement for that turn. [p.39 — Free Movement] In Combat mode specifically, becoming engaged also causes this loss. [p.51 — Lost Movement]

  2. Waiting or ending turn: If a hero chooses to Wait or ends their turn without using free movement, it is lost. [p.39 — Free Movement] [p.46 — Waiting and/or Ending Your Turn]

  3. Using Action Points mid-movement: If a hero starts their free movement and then performs an action requiring at least 1 Action Point (such as an attack or weapon change), they lose the rest of their free movement. [p.39 — Free Movement]

  4. Unused movement: If a hero ends their free movement without moving the maximum distance allowed, the unused portion is lost and cannot be carried over. [p.39 — Free Movement]

Watch out: Free movement is regained at the start of each new turn, so losing it on one turn doesn't affect future turns. [p.39 — Free Movement]
