How do Enemies move when there are no valid paths?
Quick answer
If no valid path exists, enemy movement stops at the last possible space before the obstacle or impassable area.
Details
When enemies are instructed to move but encounter an impassable obstacle (e.g., blocking terrain, rift, or occupied space), their movement is halted at the last valid space they can reach. This rule applies in both Stealth mode and Combat mode:
- Stealth mode: If an enemy’s movement (dictated by an Action card) is blocked by a blocking obstacle, rift, or insufficient movement to cross a zone, they stop at the furthest valid space they can reach [p.48 — FOCUS: MOVING ENEMIES IN STEALTH MORE].
- Combat mode: Enemies follow their behavior protocol (e.g., moving toward the closest hero). If no path exists to reach their target, they remain in place or follow alternative rules based on their specific behavior (e.g., attacking adjacent heroes if engaged) [p.59 — ENEMY BEHAVIOR].
Watch out: If an enemy’s movement is interrupted by an obstacle or rift, they may still attempt actions (e.g., attacking adjacent heroes) if within range, depending on their current mode and behavior rules.
