How does Generator Discount affect Entropy?

Quick answer

Your Generator marker's position reduces the Entropy cost to Activate Stars, granting a discount to a set number of Stars—but only when you use the Activate Stars Action space itself.

Details

The Generator track determines an Entropy discount applied when you resolve the Activate Stars action: your marker's position on the track sets both the discount amount and how many activated Stars can benefit from it [p.9 — ACTIVATE STARS]. For example, being at a certain position could give a -1 Entropy discount for up to 3 Stars activated in that action [p.9 — ACTIVATE STARS].

This discount is tied specifically to using the Activate Stars Action space — it does not apply if you activate a Star through retrieving a Creation token during Movement instead [p.11 — CATCH AN ASTEROID / Primordial Soup notes]. You advance your Generator marker by resolving the Primordial Soup action, which also grants you 1 Mass and 1 Energy [p.11 — PRIMORDIAL SOUP].

Watch out: The last three spaces on the Generator track award immediate VP when reached, and if you're already on the final space and would advance again, you gain 3 VP instead of moving further [p.11 — PRIMORDIAL SOUP].
