When does an Intrigue card's effect trigger during endgame scoring?

Quick answer

Endgame Intrigue cards are played and resolved during the Endgame phase, immediately after the game ends but before determining the winner.

Details

Endgame Intrigue cards are a specific type of Intrigue card that can only be played at the end of the game [p.7 — Intrigue Cards]. The game ends when a player reaches 10 or more Victory Points or the Conflict Deck is empty [p.15 — Endgame]. Once the game ends, the Endgame phase begins, and players first have the opportunity to play and resolve any Endgame Intrigue cards they possess [p.15 — Endgame]. This occurs before comparing Victory Points to declare a winner.

Endgame Intrigue cards are distinct from Plot and Combat Intrigue cards, which are played during earlier phases. Their effects are resolved in the order players choose to play them during this dedicated Endgame step. After all Endgame Intrigue cards are resolved, the final Victory Point totals are compared, and the winner is determined.

Watch out:
Endgame Intrigue cards do not trigger automatically. Players must explicitly play them during the Endgame phase. If a player forgets to play one, it remains unused and has no effect on the final scoring.
