How do enemy wounds work with Monster cards?
Quick answer
Enemy wounds are resolved by drawing a Wound card, which dictates effects like HP loss, status tokens, or death, regardless of the enemy type (including Monsters).
Details
When an enemy suffers a Light or Heavy Wound (from an attack or anomaly), draw the top card from the Enemy Wounds deck and resolve its effects [p.28 — ENEMY WOUNDS]. The Wound card may:
- Apply a ☒ (Pin Down) or ☑ (Exposed) token.
- Cause HP loss (e.g., "lose 1 ♠"), potentially killing the enemy if their HP drops to 0.
- Trigger other outcomes like pushing the enemy or shuffling the Wound deck.
Monsters (e.g., Boss enemies like the Pseudogiant) follow the same rules unless their specific card states otherwise. Most enemies have 1 HP (♠), so a single Wound often kills them. Monsters with higher HP (if specified on their card) require multiple HP loss effects to die [p.31 — Enemy card].
Watch out: If a Wound card instructs an action that can’t be resolved (e.g., no enemy remains to move), ignore that part. Always prioritize the Wound card’s instructions over general rules unless contradicted by the enemy’s specific card.
