How do end of round goals work?

Quick answer

End of round goals are scored by placing player markers on the round tracker based on each player's standing (1st, 2nd, etc.), with ties allowing all tied players to claim the higher position's VP. VP is awarded at game end based on these placements.

Details

At the end of each round, players score the round's objective by placing one of their player markers on the round tracker board under the corresponding objective tile. The placement depends on their relative performance:

  • Players tied for 1st place all place markers on the "1st place" space.
  • The next highest player places their marker on "2nd place," and so on.
  • Players with zero progress on the objective place markers on "all others" (0 VP).

These markers determine Victory Points (VP) awarded at the end of the game. For example, if two players tie for 1st in an objective, both gain the VP listed for 1st place, and the next player gains VP for 2nd place [p.14 — ROUND END/UPKEEP].

Watch out: The objective tiles include numbers for Automa (solo) mode, which are irrelevant in multiplayer games. Ignore these numbers when scoring [p.14 — ROUND END/UPKEEP].

VP from objectives is tallied during final scoring, along with other sources like dragons, eggs, cached resources, and Dragon Guild advancements [p.15 — GAME END AND SCORING].
