How do Energized building sides grant rewards?
Quick answer
When you energize a Building you immediately gain Achievement tokens (equal to its electricity requirement) plus any printed Thaler/Worker/income/Technology benefits, then flip it to its energized side, which only awards its printed VP at game end.
Details
Energizing a Building is the final step of the Energize action. After transporting enough electricity to a Building whose requirement is met, you receive Achievement tokens equal to that Building's electricity requirement (excess electricity is lost), plus any benefits printed on the front of the tile such as Thaler, Workers, income track advancements, or Technologies [p.16 — Actions Explained]. You then flip the tile to its energized side, which shows a lit light bulb icon in the upper-left corner [p.16 — Actions Explained].
The VP value shown on the energized side of the tile is not gained immediately — it is only counted during Final Scoring at the end of the game [p.16 — Actions Explained]. At that time, each of your energized Buildings scores its depicted VP, and any energized Building located in Praha scores double [p.21 — End of the Game].
Government Buildings work differently: instead of a flat VP value, their energized side shows a scoring condition naming a Building type (Residence, Factory, or Laboratory). For each energized Government Building, you score the indicated amount for every Building of that type in the same network as the Government Building — including itself and Buildings belonging to other players, energized or not [p.21 — End of the Game].
Watch out: The Achievement tokens and printed front-side benefits (Thaler, Workers, etc.) are gained the moment you energize the Building, but the VP shown on the energized side itself is purely a Final Scoring bonus — don't count it toward your VP total until the game ends [p.16, p.21 — Actions Explained / End of the Game].
