How do you Delve in the game?

Quick answer

To Delve, spend ♣️ energy, draw and resolve Delving cards, choosing paths until ending the delve or reaching depth limits.

Details

Delving is an activity available only if the society has been granted access via a game effect. To perform it:

  1. Setup: Shuffle the Delving deck until the top card has no requirements (e.g., depth or icon conditions). Draw this card.
  2. Resolve Effects: Read and apply the primary effects of the Delving card.
  3. Choose Path: Decide to continue (select a path direction) or end the delve. If continuing:
    • Set aside resolved cards.
    • Draw a new card matching the chosen path’s icon and depth requirements. Repeat steps 2–3.
  4. Depth Rules:
    • Depth increases by 1 for each resolved card.
    • At Depth 7+, each additional card costs 1 extra energy. If unable to pay, the delve ends immediately.
  5. Exit: When ending the delve (voluntarily or forced), place the character in a hex based on their depth:
    • Depth 1–2: Adjacent cave/chasm hex or starting hex.
    • Depth 3–4: Any same-region cave/chasm hex or starting hex.
    • Depth 5+: Any cave/chasm hex (or starting hex). Unexplored hexes are flipped faceup first.

Watch out: If the Delving deck has no valid starting card (all require unmet conditions), Delving cannot be performed until the deck is reshuffled or conditions change. [p.34 — ACTIVITIES]
