How do characters collect Coins in Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion?
Quick answer
Characters collect money tokens by looting them from the map during a scenario, either automatically at the end of their turn or using Loot abilities on cards.
Details
Characters can loot money tokens in two ways. First, at the end of each character's turn, that character automatically loots their current hex, collecting any money tokens there [p.15 — Looting]. Second, some ability cards contain a "Loot X" action, which allows a figure to loot their current hex and all hexes within Range × X of them—for example, "Loot 1" lets you pick up all money tokens in your hex and each adjacent hex [p.15 — Looting].
Money tokens are placed on the map at the start of a scenario on hexes marked with a money icon, and additional money tokens are placed whenever a monster dies, in the hex where it died [p.14 — Money Tokens]. However, any tokens left on the map at the end of a scenario are not collected [p.14 — Money Tokens].
After completing a scenario, each character converts their collected money tokens into gold. In Scenarios 1–3, each money token is worth 2 gold, though this conversion rate increases at higher scenario levels [p.18 — Recording Money Rewards]. Characters cannot share gold or money tokens at any time [p.18 — Recording Money Rewards].
