what happens if a companion doesn't have an offensive action on their card
Quick answer
Companions can still perform two Actions during their Activation, including Basic Actions and Sheet Actions—they don't need an offensive action. [p.27 — In Combat]
Details
When a Companion is Activated during Combat, they may perform two Actions. These can include: any Basic Action (Move or First Aid), a specific Action from their card, and Sheet Actions. [p.27 — In Combat] The rulebook does not require that a Companion have an offensive action available.
If a Companion's card lacks an offensive action, they can still contribute meaningfully by moving strategically, using First Aid to help a Knocked Out Character, or resolving any Sheet Actions available in the current Combat encounter. [p.22 — Basic Actions] and [p.25 — Sheet Actions during Combat]
Watch out: Remember that Companions refresh their card at the beginning of the Character's Activation (not their own), so the available side of their card determines what Actions they can take when they Activate. [p.27 — In Combat]
