How does a party action work?
Quick answer
A party action occurs when Characters in the same Location agree to take an Action together. The Action’s cost is shared among members (except for Character-specific Abilities, where the owner must pay part of the cost), and effects are resolved as a group.
Details
When multiple Characters are in the same Location, they may form a Party to take an Action together. To do this:
- The initiating Character proposes the Action and agrees to lead it.
- Other Characters in the Location may choose to join, forming a Party.
- The Action is resolved collectively, with costs and effects applied to the Party as a whole.
Cost Sharing:
- Most Action costs (e.g., Food, Wealth, Magic) can be split freely among Party members.
- For Character-specific Actions (e.g., Abilities, Secrets, Items, Skills), the owner must pay at least 1 Energy (□) or 1 Health (△) if required. Other members can cover remaining costs.
Action Types:
- Travel: Cost scales with the number of Party members (1 Energy per member).
- Activate a Waystone: Costs are split, and the "Blood Price" option requires paying 3 Health and gaining 2 Health per Character in the game.
- Location Action: Cost is paid once, but benefits are granted once (e.g., "Gain 1 Food" gives it to one member).
- Combat/Diplomacy Encounters: Resolved jointly, with shared Sequence and effects.
Leaving a Party:
A Character may leave a Party before an Action begins but not during or after starting it. If a Character is removed mid-Encounter (e.g., due to "You Are Dying"), they rejoin the Party afterward.

Watch out:
If a Party member cannot or refuses to pay their share of a cost, the Action cannot be performed unless others cover it. For example, if a Location Action requires 3 Wealth total and one member cannot contribute, the Action fails unless the remaining members pay the full cost.
