How do rounds and turns work in the game?

Quick answer

The Focus Phase consists of multiple rounds, each starting with revealing an Alert card. Players take individual turns in Turn Order during each round, with each turn including steps like Reveal Crisis, Selection, Actions, Clean-up, and The Void Advances.

Details

The game is structured into three Cycles, each divided into three Phases: Preparation, Focus, and Evaluation. The Focus Phase (p.9 — Focus Phase) is where player actions occur in rounds. The number of rounds in the Focus Phase is determined by the number shown in the top-right corner of the current Galactic Event.

Each round begins by revealing the top card of the Alert deck, which sets the context for that round (e.g., triggering a Crisis if it’s a Situation card). Players then take turns in Turn Order (determined during the Preparation Phase). During a player’s turn, they follow these steps:

  1. Reveal Crisis (if the Alert card is a Situation): Draw and place a Crisis card.
  2. Selection Step: Choose a Focus card from their hand or the Joint/Heroic Focus offer, optionally flipping a Trade token or playing an Agenda.
  3. Actions Step: Resolve up to two (or three if a Trade token was flipped) actions from the Focus card and any played Agenda.
  4. Clean-up Step: Resolve end-of-turn effects (e.g., limiting Fleet tokens per sector, handling Agendas, returning flipped Trade tokens).
  5. The Void Advances Step: If the Alert was a Situation and the Crisis wasn’t resolved, choose an option (suffer penalty, discard the Crisis, or make it ongoing).

After all players complete their turns in a round, the next round begins, repeating the process until all rounds for the Focus Phase are completed.

Watch out: The number of rounds can vary per Cycle depending on the Galactic Event. Players must ensure they manage resources and Fleet Power efficiently across multiple turns within a single Focus Phase.
