How does the Infected with Larvae card affect my character?

Quick answer

If you're infected with a Larva, a Larva miniature is placed on your Character board. If you already have one, you die and a Creeper is added to the room.

Details

When a Contamination card is revealed as "INFECTED" (via Scanning), a Larva miniature is placed on your Character board. This indicates you are infected. The Larva remains on your board until removed by specific actions (e.g., Surgery, Antidote).

If you gain another Infected Contamination card while already having a Larva, your Character dies immediately. Additionally, a Creeper token is placed in the same room. This is because the existing Larva matures into a Creeper upon a second infection.

The Larva does not count as a Wound but acts as a persistent status. If you die with a Larva on your board, the Larva is not removed—it may trigger additional effects depending on game context (e.g., spawning a Creeper during endgame contamination checks).

Watch out: Scanning Contamination cards (e.g., via Surgery, Canteen, or Shower Room) risks revealing an infection. Always prioritize scanning non-Infected cards first to avoid triggering the Larva placement or death.
