How do card statuses work?

Quick answer

Status cards go on top of your discard pile with one effect active (based on enemy icon); the other effect is ignored that combat. [p.24 — Abilities & Keywords]

Details

When an enemy gives you a Status card, you add the top card from the Status deck to your discard pile. Each Status card has two effects—one marked with a 🟢 icon and one marked with a 🤎 icon. The enemy that gave you the Status determines which effect is active: if the enemy has a 🟢 icon, use the 🟢 effect; if it has a 🤎 icon, use the 🤎 effect. The other effect is completely ignored for that combat. [p.24 — Abilities & Keywords]

Status cards cost 1 Energy to play and return to the Status deck when they are Exhausted (not kept in your discard pile like normal cards). [p.24 — Abilities & Keywords] They are removed from your deck at the end of combat along with Daze cards. [p.7 — Your Deck]

Watch out: Status cards go into your discard pile immediately when gained, not your hand. This means they won't be in your hand to play during the current turn—they'll only appear when you draw them in a future turn (or after reshuffling your discard pile into your draw pile).
