Can I continue a Goal past minimum requirements in Stonesaga?
Quick answer
Yes, but only if the Goal card explicitly allows continued progress beyond minimum requirements.
Details
In Stonesaga, achieving a Goal typically resolves its immediate requirements as described on the card. Once a Goal is completed, players follow the instructions on its verso (back), which may include:
- Adding new objectives
- Reading a codex entry
- Other effects that could extend or modify the Goal’s impact
However, most Goals are considered resolved once their stated requirements are met [p.23 — Cartes Défi et Objectif]. The card itself determines whether further progress is possible. For example:
- If a Goal involves "collecting 5 resources" and players collect 7, the excess does not automatically apply unless the card specifies cumulative effects.
- Some Goals may have escalating thresholds (e.g., "for every 2 additional resources, gain X"), but this must be explicitly stated on the card.
Watch out: Always check the Goal card’s text for phrases like "continue until..." or "additional progress grants..." If no such language exists, the Goal is complete once the minimum is achieved.
If a Goal is part of a larger campaign arc (e.g., "Epoque" objectives), its resolution might unlock persistent effects or new challenges, but this is handled through campaign rules [p.92 — Règles de la Campagne], not by over-achieving on the initial Goal.
